Using Social Technologies as Teaching Tools Day 5
Thank you so much for taking the class. You guys made my week. And, as I promised you, I learned much more than you did. I hope I get to see you all again at some point.
Before we go, we need to see each other's work (more learning moments), then clean up our workstations ( no footprints ) by removing everything we did and emptying the trash. If you can think of anything else, please let me know.
I made 10 CDs for you guys along with a disk menu (two disks a piece) that you can insert into the sleeve.
You can also look at the following that deal with Portable Applications as you requested:

If you're interested, you can print them out to read at you leisure.

Using Social Technologies as Teaching Tools Day 4
This morning I'm going to try to get as much of the "grunt work" done as possible. That will leave you with more time to tweak and polish.

It took me a couple of hours this am along with a couple of blind alleys (Google Gadgets-take a look). First, I tried a "jukebox" gadget which ran poorly -music fine, but Marianne sounded like one of the "Chipmunks".

Using Social Technologies as Teaching Tools Day 3
Another good day yesterday. I'm glad we got started (it's only because I'm nervous about the time line). You all know how quickly time gets sucked up by a sponge when something goes wrong-the little deadly glitch.
I promised you some links that would lead to "podsafe music"; well here they are:
http://www.podsafeaudio.com/
This morning I loaded a variety (genre) of music files from a number of sites for you to use if you don't want to get sucked down into the quicksand. You won't have to do a search-they're already there if you hear any you like it'll be a big time saver.
Here's how to get there:
Go to My Network Places, then put this address in the window <\\lnpdt1> without the < > of course. Press the "enter" key and then look for the folder entitled LNPD Class. Open it and you'll see our folder which is named after the class, Social_Technologies. When you open that one you'll see two music related folders. Look there first to see if anything strikes you. BTW there are some spoken word files as well (a few) and if you open one just close it and move on down the buffet line to something else.

Using Social Technologies as Teaching Tools Day 2
First of all I want to tell you all that you were great yesterday-very accepting and very enthusiastic.
I need to let you know, (only because the flicker of the thought quicky danced through my little brain and I don't want to lose it) that this morning I found a blog whose subject that issue was increasing your blog audience. It looked pretty good so take a look at: http://www.problogger.net/archives/2005/08/15/search-engine-optimization-for-blogs/
It's entitled, SEO Search Engine Optimization. "SEO", who knew?
I'll let you know if I come across others.
Thanks Marianne.
I looked at some of your blogs last night before my meeting but I think I was too early for you. I didn't get home till later than I thought and I was tuckered out, so I'll look at them this morning when I get into the lab.

Using Social Technologies as Teaching Tools Day 1
Welcome and thank you very much for taking the class. This class will have a pleasant tenor and tone of no or low pressure. We're going to cover a lot of exciting and new technology. We're going to have a great time doing it and you're going to leave here "loaded for bear" as they say. You'll have something concrete you can use in your classrooms in the fall.
Before we get into the subject material, we'll spend some time with workshop protocols and housekeeping procedures that, if we remember to follow them, will make our lives run much smoother during the next five days.
I'm going to use this format to outline our itinerary, my notes for you, and list some resources that you'll need access to. We'll see how it goes. I always try to "kill as many birds as I can" with one stone (for better of worse, who knows?). In that vein, you'll be using this format to maintain a journal (at this site most likely, though not imperative). While I'm here, I want to give you a quick precis of the assignment you'll need to do this afternoon (or this evening depending on your preference). Please go online and read The Emerging Online Life of the Digital Native by going to http://www.marcprensky.com/writing/Prensky-The_Emerging_Online_Life_of_the_Life_of_the_Digital_Native-03.pdf
- How you would use some aspect of the previously introduced topics (things that we will have covered today) to enhance your teaching.
- Include an application (not software) to a specific teaching unit.
- Comment on one useful idea gleaned from the blog of another teacher in the class.
Ancillary Information
If you wanted to search for particular blog by subject, you could go to the following:

As you know, some of this class may be done online. We'll either use Blackboard or Tapped In. You'll get to see both of them no matter which one we primarily use. They both have their good points and they are similar but different.
We be setting up an account in Tapped In for later use. Please print out all login pages and jot down your user ID and passwords for any site that we have to enter. It's very easy to forget them or to become confused. It happens to me all the time-just now in fact.
